Amatuer photographers kit...

So what do you think are necessary/useful pieces of equipment for an enthusiast/advanced amateure photographer these days?
Maybe we can split it up into classes of photographers.
Ill get it started, but I don't know much about some types of photography so I'm sure I will be corrected.

General -
New Strap (I hate advertising that I have a good camera, give me an inconspicuous one any day)

Landscape-
Wide angle lens, Tripod, CPL, ND Grad filter, remote

Portrait-
Flash, Diffuser

Street -
None? Leica

Macro -
Ring Flash

Necessary? 1 camera and 2 lenses, one short and one long

Useful? It would take me too long to type the list

Classic kit from the 60's for general photgraphy

Manual film body, such as a Spotmatic, and 3 lenses:

24mm/35mm/85mm or
28mm/50mm/105mm

If you feel like reading an in-depth (if just a bit dated) web site on the topic visit

whatever camera(s) and lens(es) you wish
extra batteries and memory cards, natch
lens pen and Official Pentax sensor cleaning kit
'pod, maybe -- flash, maybe -- filters, maybe
optical strap-on's if you feel so inclined
whatever bag(s) you're comfortable with
and attitude -- don't forget to have attitude

I'm sorry, that's just too open-ended a question. We all need what we think we need, until we find that we don't really need it. Sometimes I only need my 5mpx Sony DSC-V1 'NightShot' P&S, and an IR light and bracket. Sometimes I don't even need that much. Sometimes I need 2 or 3 bags with 25-35 lenses, film cameras in 135 and 6x9cm formats, two tripods, and Ansel my porter to schlep all the gear. It depends.
