Lens hoods

Hey guys, I recently got the Pentax K-x kit with the two DAL lenses in it (18-55, and 55-300), and I noticed Pentax cheaped out a little and didn't include lens hoods! Will the Pentax brand DA lens hoods fit the DAL lenses?

Also, can you use a circular polarizing filter or a UV filter with these hoods? Can anyone recommend a good one of either? My interests tend to lie with outdoor photography, so I probably do need these filters.

Yes to both (Although the hoods can end up being pricey)! Hoya CPL filters are good: Hoya 52mm Circular Polarizing Glass Filter B52CRPL B&H Photo

Struck a nerve

I have to say I think it's really skuzzy of Pentax to sell lenses w/o hoods.

I agree. I've already had trouble with the big one getting unwanted light. It's just annoying, but oh well, it's still a great camera and a good lens.

They have include the L series of lenses in the kit to keep the prices at a certain price point. The L lenses have plastic instead of metal mounts and no lens shades. The lens shades are pricey like everything in photography. I mean really just look at the prices on accessories it's ridiculous.

Even though SMC coatings are exceptionally good at reducing lens flare - prevention remains a better alternative than recovering an image that is washed out from flare, which could have been prevented from the use of a lens hood. Also with faster lenses lens hoods can in fact increase contrast and improve lens performance.

Lens hoods can also provide physical protection for the front of your camera lenses
