I've never even used a beauty dish but I want to try it. I can't afford a new one so I made one for a couple bucks.
Parts:
14" diamater white plastic salad bowl (purchased for $1 at dollar tree)
(I used some black duct tape for the back of the bowl.. I imagine sanding and spray painting it a flat black would be better.. i'll do that next time when i remake it).
1 semi clear plastic cd cover for stack of 50. (already had it layign around)
1 cd (had a bad cd on hand)
some aluminum foil
hot glue gun (this device is like $2.50 at Walmart and a couple bucks for glue sticks)
Instructions:
Measure flash unit, draw lines on bowl with sharpie, cut out that rectangle (or whatever) in the center back of bowl with a sharp utility knife, being careful not to cut self.
Outside bowl: spray paint black (I used black duct tape this time)
Wrap foil around CD and glue it on with glue gun.
Hot Glue CD to inside of 50 stack CD cover.
Quickly put 4 tacks of hot glue on the edge of the CD 50 stack cover, and place in center of bowl.
Done.
I have no idea how well this is going to work.. I'll find out after I get a cactus transmitter/receiver for my Pentax K-X and Vivitar 283
Side Note: The inside of the 50 CD stack cover is raised in the middle . I imagine putting a paper disc covered in foil in it with it raised in the middle and pressed down on ends would help distribute the reflections--shrug. (i.e. convex instead of flat)
