I like it !

Wife (this time) will not be engaged - although she has many times before and always willing to be a Sherpa

Hiring a Sherpa would be possible if I were going to some other Country where the hourly rate is low and there are no Sherpa Unions - here I suspect with benefits, union dues, medical coverage, vacation pay the cost would be rather prohibited

Here is a little but dig in the side idea. (do not take it too serious.) get an assistant, someone to carry the heavy tripod for you. It really works, problem solved. I often get my son to carry 'extra' camera gear.

haha the Trip I am planing is just da boy's. As mentioned on numerous holidays when I am packing WAY too much gear and the tripod - the wife has always been my Sherpa - carrying at least the tripod.

I am working on a better set of straps on the Lowpro that should take care of things. Some good suggestions here - I really like the strippper sherpa's and could probably swing that finacially, it's the after effect when showing picuters of my sherpa's doing 'tipod dancing' that would cost me half

Those would be members of the the Bangkok sherpa union in australia wouldn't they. might be cost prohibitive as well unless you hire non-union under the table

You seem awfully well informed in such matters.
