I'm about to grab a La Crosse BC-9009, but had a few questions first.

1. Is there a stand alone version (without the batteries, C-D adpaters, etc.), kind of like the BC-700? I don't really have any use for the extras and don't see any sense in paying for them.
2. Is there a cigarette lighter adpater for it, and where can you get one?
3. Is there any reason to not get this in favor of the Maha C-9000?
4. Does anyone know what the differences are between this and the newer BC-1000? I can't seem to find any.

3) This charger is known to melt down and is a genuine fire hazard. It is a feature rich but poorly made product that is not that different from a trillion other cheap products being found in Asia. I am surprise people kept recommending it, maybe because of too much hype or people got caught by the fancy features. The Maha was known to melt down too but not nearly as common as 9009. I would pick the Panasonic, Sanyo or Sony smart chargers which are many times safer, those with refresh feature are even better. If you must go for the 9009, make sure it was not left out of sight for too long or near any window curtain. Good luck.

I thought that was the 9000, not the 9009, that had the overheating problem.

I experienced the meltdown issue with the 9000. Don't know anything about the 9009.
