Heated gloves.

Hi gang,

I am usually pretty successful in searching the net for items I need. So far, I am failing to find an item I desperately need.

I live in Northern Wisconsin, and if you are any kind of weather watcher you know we get some of the nastiest winter cold spells in the US. My hands can not take the cold anymore. I am a reformed smoker (= cold hands) and I am in my late 40's ( = cold hands).

I am looking for gloves that are flexible enough to occasionally operate my control wheels (front and back) and also heat the fingers. There are plenty of gloves that heat the palm only and I don't want those.

I am into the beginning of my first photographic winter season so I really, really, really need help! I did a Tree Lighting ceramony a few nights ago and my finger were so cold they hurt after only a half hour of shooting. The temperatures I need to combat are about 15 to 30 degrees F not including wind chill. Any colder than that and it would have to be a special shoot to go out.

Thanks,
Tom

hey tom,
In the hunting section of a big sporting goods store I saw some gloves that have a pocket for those little hot packs, that might work ok but I haven't tried them.

Thanks Tom. I may have to give those a try, although I still would like something battery powered. Something that maybe has a small battery pack belt with wire leads to the gloves.

If they don't exist, one of you enterprizing folks out there should design one for the photographers of the world......or at least those of us in the frozen parts!

I've seen gloves similar to that, heated using wiring and a battery, designed for motorcycle riders, snow skiers, and hunters. I found several by entering "battery heated gloves" into the Yahoo search engine. Try that and related search words. If you don't like what you find there, try searching through some of the online catalogs for motorcycle riders, snow skiers, or hunters. You might also find something similar in local stores oriented towards those activities.

From one of the comments on that Bass Pro site...

I work in the cold all winter and would love to have gloves that offered dexterity to manipulate small objects yet kept my finger tips warm.

I don't think it exists.

Jeff...

What I do is fold my fingers back into the heated part of the glove. I only have my fingers in the fingers!?! when I need to use them.

Does that make sense?

Cabela's might have it . Check their Website out . Also you might want to store you camera in a zip lock bag . I haven't done any cold weather shooting ever since I moved to California but I used to live in Midwest , close to Wisconsin infact , so condensation could be a problem with the DSLR ( ? ) .
