Oz Pentaxians - Any interest in a D-LI90 group buy from BHP/Adorama?

Hi Ozzies,

I am just wondering if there is any interest to initiate a group buy from BHP/Adorama? The item I am thinking of is the D-LI90 battery from BHP.

Currently the D-LI90 Pentax Original battery is selling for $35.75 USD.

Pentax D-LI90 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack 39830 B&H

The same battery selling in digidirect/DCW is about $110 AUD. The price difference is huge.

BHP allow max 10 battery per order. So 10 x D-LI90 will cost $402.96 USD after UPS postage of $45.46 USD. So effectively each battery is going to cost $40.296 USD which is about $41 - $42 AUD or so. A fair cost savings as compared to buying locally.

Buying from Adorama is even cheaper, if there are sufficient quantities ordered.

Adorama is selling the D-LI90 the same price as BHP and if an order of 20 is made, the total incl. postage is $784.70 USD which is $39.23 USD.

Any interest in this group buy?

Cheers
raider

I'm not an Ozzie, but I'll be in Melbourne for five weeks and wouldn't mind snagging one or two extra batteries for backups while I'm traveling. It might be cheaper to have someone in the US make the purchase, get free shipping and then ship via USPS in one of their small flat rate boxes (~$14 shipping to Australia). But then whoever receives them in AU would have to send them to everyone...

Anyway, if it works out, I'm happy to participate.

Oh yes. Ideally this kind of group buy will work best when the buyers are in the same town to cut down further on postage cost. And obviously if the buyers are interstate, then they would have to factor in extra $6 or so for the postage cost for the battery to be delivered via Australia Post.

Might want to chuck in a few SD cards too. The faster ones are double the price here.

I can fill up and SD card faster than I can empty a battery.

Just be careful to keep it under the magic A$1000 valued when it lands, or they'll cut you for about $200 in duty/ customs processing / and GST.

I've got 3 genuine batteries and have never needed more than 2 for a weekend's shooting. I dont use LV though and tend not chimp at the screen very much maybe only glance at the highlights of histogram.

On Saturday I had my camera set up interval shooting for 15 hours with the built in flash on +1 power (198) shots. I was Doing a time lapse of a large flower opeing in the garden. I eventually gave up at 12.45am as it was about to start raining an I was tired. Damn flower didnt open properly until about 3pm the next day after 27 hours. (+30mm of ranfall)
My first attempt a timelapse = FAIL

Anyway the point is my battery was still indicating full on the screen, i'm still amazed how long they last.

The order will be from BHP/Adorama and there is no price markup for the group buy...how could it be any cheaper unless the order is from somewhere else?

Oh well, I thought this is a good idea for ozzies anyway. no drama....I will just order the batteries myself then.
