Damping Grease

looks like "damping grease" is what you are looking for. In addition to the kit shown above, see http://www.amazon.com/Lubricant-Grease-Nyogel-2oz-Tube/dp/B005KLCXDQ/ref=sr_...2850574&sr=8-2 -Avi

I wouldn't ask Manfrotto for a sample, I meant that if you can figure out the industrial supplier that provides their grease (likely to a number of different industries for a number of different purposes) then the supplier or manufacturer may be willing to send out a sample. If Manfrotto won't tell you what the grease is called then I would contact their service department, tell them I have an old, out of warranty ball head that I want to relube myself, and ask if there is any way I could buy a small container of the damping grease they use on their current tripod heads.

There is plenty damping fluid available out there.
R/C cars use it in shock absorbers and differentials, so do turntables for tonearm damping. The hard part seems to kick in when you try to find the sticky 500000 cSt or higher viscosity.

Hello, does anyone have a solid lead or solution to this yet? I have searched the Internet to find very few discussions about this besides this thread. Any help would be much appreciated!

Does anyone know where I can get the sticky tripod grease?
I'm not looking for thick grease or moly grease, but that new really tacky/sticky stuff they seem to be using in fluid and pan heads.

Its something new and its white - it's not lithium, but something that doesn't wash off easily.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
Get a head that does not need grease and you will be happy ever after.

RE Sticky grease for tripod heads

Amsoil synthetic polymeric off road grease with 5% moly or valvoline crimson tacky grease. It dampens the rotational movement of the tripod head similar to fluid heads

Here is a demo of white lithium, tri-flo, and damping grease:

Explains why my white lithium grease in the aerosol can doesn't work.

I had a longer discussion, but the forum webpage lost it when I didn't click "forum old don't care".

Hi. This is May 2023 and I have the very same issue. I'll tel you what have so far not worked for me. Grade 2 Silicon was too slippy. Grade 3 silicon paste had the right viscosity but it also gets stuck in the beginning. The color and consistency of the old flanges makes me believe that it is a petroleum grease with a NLGI grade of 4 - that is very sticky! Also make sure to get a grease that is "flat" meaning in very cold or hot temperatures the viscosity does not change much.
