Well, I pulled the trigger on a new tripod to go with my K-5 today. I wanted something relatively compact and light, but well built. I've used Manfrotto tripods before and have had good results with them, so I ordered the 293 kit, a 4-section leg unit with a ball QR head. Closes down to 52cm and only 1.8kg. Should have it before Xmas!

Congratulations! I am still using my modified telescope tripod with a Vanguard head. Yeah, it weighs a lot (Over 7kg), but I would rather save my money for lenses.
Tough + cheap = sore muscles after a day of shooting.

I have been looking for a tripod and this looks like around what I need and price I was looking to spend. Let me know what you think when it gets there

Well... we'll see, Amazon quoted a delivery of 22-28.12, so it's possible but not guaranteed
