Which QR plate for my FA* 600mm?

Hi,

I received my Benro GH-2 with the PL-100 Quick Release Plate. It is smaller than the FA* 600mm foot and I can use only one screw (what bothers me a little). What QRP shall I use? PL-120? PL-150?

Regards.

Hi Malsi,

Can you get the camera/lens to balance with the 100mm plate? . . . Try to get balance on the gimbal, even if the plate is not fully engaged in the clamp , then measure how much extra length that you'll need to get full engagement in the clamp.

As far as the single screw goes, you should be able to find a machinist who can either accurately drill a hole or machine a slot for a second attachment point. Yeah it's an extra expense, but it would be worth it for your peace of mind and the lens deserves it. . .

I'm using the Wimberley P50 which mounts either 2 or three screws. I could use a slightly longer one to fully cover the base of the lens, but the problem is that on the Wimberley head, you can only bring the lens back so far before it's binding against the L shaped bracket.

I've actually been taking to move my bottom plate up the mount a half inch or so, making it look a bit more like a T than an L so that I can more perfectly balance the 600 on the Wimberley.

1 screw eh? I'd say that isn't enough. Two should be fine though.

Where did you find your 600/4?

Hi,

Thank you for your answers.

I can mount the lens on the Benro Head with the PL-100. 100 is for 100mm length. What I need to know is if you use a 100mm QRP (even if you have another head)?

I think that I will buy a second QRP but I need to be sure that I will be able to use 2 screws.

I bough the 600mm in France (KparK forum) from a photographer who left Pentax for Canon (lens too heavy for him). A quite lucky situation because at the begining, I didn't know that he had this lens.

Regards.

Yes, and there was a pack behind me, you can't imagine ! A double chance: I was on holiday in the south of France to visit family... and the seller was in the area!
