Great Bag. First I've ever owned that did not slide off my Shoulder. Plenty of room and compartments. My Everyday bag.

Just bought one. Tried a few other models, including a Kata Orbit. The Tenba is certainly my favorite. Lots of pockets, well padded, reasonably lightweight (the Kata is lighter, but flimsy), and the best part, the quick access zipper to access the main compartment. This was a deal breaker for me on all the other brands. I don't want to constantly flip open the flap to get at my gear.

I, too, am looking for a messenger-style bag. I haven't seen the Tenba in stores so thanks for bringing that one up.

Another one I'm on the fence about is the Retrospective 10...

The Retrospective 10 is basically the same thing as a Domke. Same pockets even. One thing to consider is the lack of padding in the Think Tank and Domke style bags. This does mean light weight, however, it also means less protection. The Tenba offers a lot of protection with lots of padding and a rubberized bottom. The canvas style bags offer no protection from drops.

The chunkiness of the Tenba was a little bit of a turn off for me at first, but I went with the small and I started to see the pros outweigh the cons.

I found the best discrete messenger bag solution.

1. Get a classic messenger bag such as a Rothco 9148 ( Black Heavyweight Classic Messenger Bag ) - I got one on ebay for $25
2. Get one of those camera compartments such as: ( Mountainsmith Kit Cube Camera Compartment at REI.com ). I didn't get that one, found a similar one at k-mart which I am using.

The best thing about this setup is you can use any bag big enough to fit the camera compartment. Just make sure its one with a cover for extra rain protection.
