I have a bit of wiggle between my quick release plate and K-5. I don't like it, it's a pita.
Is this common?
What is your fix?

This is the setup, really happy with everything else but the wiggle Sirui N2204 reviews - Pentax Camera Accessories: Database and Reviews

It looks like the Sirui N2204 uses Acra-Swiss QR plates. Does the one you are using have a lip on it, that conforms to the back of the camera, thus prevents twisting, or is it just flat. If its just flat, then it is probably prone to twisting - you might try tightening the screw, but I am assuming that over time it works itself loose. There are other Acra-Swiss plates available from a number of vendors for the K5...

Yes it is an Acra-Swiss style plate and it is flat. There are rubber pads the camera sits on I think this may the source of the wiggle, it's hard to tell. The screw is pretty tight.

Thanks for the links, much appreciated.

Another option if you don't mind it being shipped from overseas - a couple members here have used this vendor with no problems:

Mestos PD-K5 Plate Bracket for Pentax K5,K7 Body only | eBay

They also make one for use with the grip:

I would try replacing the rubber pads with self-stick gasket material (cork, or synthetic) cut to size of the rubber pads. Just make sure the gasket is thicker than the rubber pads to provide better friction when the QR plate is screwed on to the camera.

Hey stormtech, that's a nice looking plate at a sensible price. Thanks

The simple fact is there should be no wiggle. If the screw is tight, and the camera wiggles, your plate has to be warped, whatever the design.

I have the same tripod and a Manfrotto 494RC2 ballhead. The plate on the camera has a lip. Other than checking occasioanlly to make sure that it is screwed on tightly I haven't had any problems.

Check the screw itself in length. It may be bottoming out in the tripod socket on the camera which means its not tightening enough on the plate.

I had this problem with the screws on my Camdapter handgrip plate and the BG2 battery grip on my K20 and then the equivalent on my K-5.

I had to file or grind the end of the screw down a bit and then it tightened up properly.

Unfortunately not. Manfrotto plates with their thin cork surface are quite prone to creep. I've found the plates from Feisol are very good. They are a flat plate, but the rubber pad is a bit "sticky", and doesn't allow any twisting.

Do you know anyone who plays a violin, viola, cello or double bass?

Try rubbing both sides of the rubber pad with rosin.

It worked with my QR.

The screw has 4 mm protrusion and the K-5 socket is 5.5 mm.

The plate in question.

I'm beginning to think the rubber is the problem.

There doesn't appear to be enough rubber there.
Seriously, try a Feisol plate.
