Right angle viewfinder question.

I bought a right angle viewfinder from eBay for a ME Super, assuming it would fit my Pentax K2000. No such luck. I notice that the viewfinder attachment on the right angle finder has four screws so it can be removed. Does Pentax make an "adapter," or a replacement attachment device for the right angle viewfinder so it will work for my K2000?

Thanks for any advice you may offer.

The Pentax "M" or "A" should fit the K2000. You may have got the right angle finder for the K series or screw-mount bodies, which are smaller and will not fit.
Can you post a picture to verify?

Thanks, Phil.

Yep. Here's a photo. It's a shame if there's no way I can modify it, 'cause it's in superb condition.
It would be great if the attachment gizmo (with the four small screws) could be removed and the correct size put in it's place.

Dewman,

This is the one you want Pentax refconverter A There a couple other genuine Pentax ones that fit older M42 cameras and unfortunately do not work on modern cameras. I know, I tried. Same story as you. There are also a few third party ones that have adjustable connections because they are made to fit a number of different cameras. I have not tried them but others here say they are good.

I finally lucked out and got the refconverter A by accident with a lot of stuff I bought on ebay. It is worth getting I use quite a bit for macro shots when the camera is all twisted around wrong.

edit: I guess if you had access to a machine shop you could make an adapter to fit pretty easy but that is beyond me. I think you are better putting that one back in the 'bay and getting the correct one.

@Dewman,
I have what looks like the same device as yours. It fit my K1000 but not the K20D. So I took some needlenose pliars and bent the metal tabs a little and now it fits. And it's no longer a collectable. What a pickle.

If it was a *real* M-Refconverter or A-Refconverter, it should work.

Behold the Pentax Ref-Converters.

From Left to right

645, K mount (old K), Refconverter II, Refconverter M, Refconverter A.

Just I thought that is the basic one for the screw-mount and K Series cameras which had a smaller viewfinder frame. If the seller on eBay indicated it was for a "M" series body they were wrong and you should be able to return it. The one you need clearly shows a 'M" or "A".

This link shows all the Pentax "Refconverters".

Actually, that 6x7 one is different in that mine doesn't have a screw mount.
I think the one I have is not for a 6x7, but is just a "Refconverter".

[edit] After looking over Bold's page - it's called the "Refconverter II"

Yep I just added a picture of the Ref II, that's the middle one in your picture.
