Cokin P Series Holder

I was looking at getting into the Cokin P series.
My question is can the holder be rotated so that the graduation isnt horizontal but tilted or vertical?

Thanks in advance

Cokin A does. It has an adapter that threads onto the lens filter rings and the Cokin holder attaches to and rotates around the adapter.

I think the P is the same but I don't have one so can't be 100% sure.

OK, thanks, that makes sense.

Have you experienced any problems with color casts? I am going to be using these filters with film, so if they do indeed have color casts, I may have to look at the more expensive options

P does meaning it rotates, or has a color cast?
Sorry

All square/rectangular filter holder rotates around the lens adapter ring, some are stiffer than others but they are designed to be rotated to suit the shooter's composition.

Yes, the Cokin P holder rotates (I have one). I don't use the Cokin filters but I have read they do have a magenta cast to them. I use the Hitect GNDs - in my experience there isn't a cast with normal shutter speeds, although once I stacked a 4 stop ND and a GND and did get a color cast - probably about a 1-2 second exposure.

i use HiTech filters in the Cokin P holder and don't notice a cast, but most brands have at least a slight cast about them.

When I bought my Cokin filters, they were called "gray" and not split ND specifically (not sure what they're called now.) I have P120 and P121. They aren't perfectly neutral, but if anything I wouldn't say the color cast was magenta, more greenish maybe. I didn't find the color to be a problem on Kodachrome or Velvia or E100 EC - batch/processing variations were a much bigger problem, even with pro films. The filter holders absolutely do rotate, although the torque required to rotate usually exceeds that required to unscrew the filter adapter. Usually I just unscrew the filter adapter to rotate it (it has at least a couple of full threads, so it doesn't fall off if you're careful.)

This is the accepted way of doing it I think, the Cokin holders and screw on rings are just fine. Some of their filters aren't bad either. But most people seem to use HiTech for the gradual ND filters, I certainly do and I'm very pleased with them. I was given a Cokin grad' and I've thrown it in the bin, it was that bad, there was nothing gradual about it at all.
