SD cards

Waiting for my K10d to arrive any day now. New to digital photography. What card is best at this time as for as being fastest writing?

Do yourself a favor: if you plan to shoot a lot or in RAW, buy the 133x or 150x cards - much quicker dumping them onto your hard drive.

I buy Lexar Professional 133x because the plastics are the best, better than the Extreme series....

Cheers,
Marc

I don't have any comparisons. From field use I can report good results with the following cards - I can't detect any difference between them in practical shooting:

Transcend 4GB 150x SD card
SanDisk 4GB UltraII SDHC card
SanDisk 4GB ExtremeIII SDHC card

I have poor experience with EP Memory Extreme Performance 150x card:
The card disintegrated after being used a few number of times. The casing was poorly made.

I use 4 in rotation in my k10d
got a transcend 8gb sdhc card via amazon for cheap, and so far so good.
also have 3 2gb sandisk extreme 3 cards, and love those too. when in the camera, i can't really tell the difference between either card type, speed wise.

what i like more about the sdhc, is I don't have to watch my file count as closely. 120 pictures is all well and good, but 480 is much better sometimes

each card was under 40 bucks

There is a website that rates the transfer rates of cards.

I forgot the site... anyone else have it?

I just bought a pair of fast 2gb CF cards... now I have to sell to buy 2 fast SD cards...

I picked up 3 Sandisk 4 GB Extreme III Secure Digital (SDHC) Memory cards for $49.95 ea. for a total of 149.85 shipped with a $110 Mail In Rebate. Total after rebate $39.85. Also picked up a PQI SD HC For $14.99 @ Fry's (only one per house hold) with a $7 MIR. I should be set. Check out Adorama for the Extremes. Rebate good through 3/30/08

P.S. The rebate comes in the form of $110 Visa gift card or if you choose to get Adorama gift card they kick in like an extra 20% or something. If you frequent Adorama it may be a good payoff.

My best one arrived today - it's best because I won it for subscribing to a photography magazine! Only 1GB though.

great deals on the 4gb! Too bad I got 3 2gb extremes already or i would've jumped all over this deal.
I wonder though, why are the saving so similar in total cost with the 2gb and 4gb after rebate? Are there any differences in speed between the two sizes?

I experience very little difference between my extreme III, transcend 150x or my std grade 8Gb card.
I suggest you spend your money on capacity instead of speed, so you can shoot all you want, in RAW+.

I do not think so. Mine just arrived. I opened the box and they came with the usb reader. That is cool. Now I have 3 of them to carry with me when ever. That way I can pull my card and stick it into someones computer to view pictures full size. Tomorrow My camera should be here. It is going to be hard to contain myself waiting for the FEDX truck.

I would have gone for the 8's however the rebate was not that great on those. I think 4 4gig cards should be plent for a novice such as my wife and I. Can not go wrong for under 50 bucks for 4 cards

Try Fry's 8 gd sdhc class6 with a reader for $35.99. I bought my first one 6 months ago for 69.99 and its fast and works great. Bought the second one in the store over the weekend since its such a good deal.

I've got several cards of different speeds, and I honestly can't tell the speed difference between the Trancend 8gb (class 6, I think) and a Sandisk 2gb Extreme III. And that's shooting raw.

Start downloading the shots, go get a bite to eat, come back and it's done. The difference between 20 and 25 minutes isn't a huge deal in this case.
