SD Maximum capacity on K100D Super

Hello.

Has anyone tried an 8Gb SHDC on a K100D Super?

You know, I bought an 8Gb Class 6 SHDC Transcend that didn't work properly on my camera,
but fine on my Notebook.

My local distributor says the max. capacity of this camera is only 4Gb, but the instruction manual only says SHDC compatible... and can't believe it.

Have you upgraded the firmware? I haven't tried an 8G card, but to get my 4G card to work I had to upgrade to the latest firmware for it to support SDHC.

As far as I know, there's no firm. update for this model, the K100D has an update to allow SHDC, but K100D Super can use SHDC by default.

Maybe it just doesn't like the card. It happens to me and my (admittedly older) SD cards and Optio S compact.

Ok, it might be, I just want to know about similar situations
and their solutions.

I'm glad you can use such a card, because I thougt it was't possible.
You know I asked my local ditributor of Pentax and said I could use max
4 gb cards. They were supposed to have tested PQI, Panasonic, SanDisk and Toshiba

One question. Could you format with the camera or on the PC?

I think you should go to the Pentax web page and contact support to make sure. All I know is my card is a PQI 8 gb SDHC and when it is empty using ***jpg I get 999 shots. Strange that yours doesn't work. Did you try formating it in camera? I can't format on my PC as I am waiting for my SDHC card reader. But I can format it in the camera with no problem. SDHC requires a special reader.

What version is your firmware? There is an update, the latest one says it added better support for SDHC. I think it is version 1.02. Just hold down the menu button as you turn on your camera and it will tell you the version you have loaded. I'd try updating the firmware then see if it still doesn't work. It is pretty easy and quick to do just go here and download the file, they have easy to follow step by step instructions.

He asked about the K100D Super not the K100D the Super has not had a single update as of yet. I think he has to format in the camera and use his USB cable unless he has a SDHC reader.

Travis, there is no reason to be quiet, it is a common mistake which I myself did before. Pentax doesn't make it easy with their naming conventions.

I couldn't format on camera, I had to do it with my SHCD reader. Perhaps it's just that the card was damaged.
I returned to the shop but they didn't have any more now, so I'll have to wait.

I just wanted to confirm that I can use so high capacity cards on my camera.
You know, the manual doesn't state anything about, My country official import says
to use a max. of 4gb, I asked Pentax Europe, but sitll have no answer.

Does anyone knows the mail address of Pentax Japan?

I'm only concerned about my "electronic device" characteristics and want to investigate them.
That's all.

I think you got a point there as my
1g card gets 340 and my
2g gets 697 so something is wrong. It could just be possible that the camera can't handle more than 4g. I just used a Flash memory checker on the USB of the camera and the 8GB card shows the following
7905 MB capacity
7897 MB Free
8289517056 bytes

So it is an 8gb card and I am not sure if the camera reconizes it as such, but I can format in the camera with 32 bit FAT.

IMPORTANT Just contacted Pentax on the phone, it takes the larger card but only shows 999, but will shoot way more than that. The LCD won't go higher according to tech support.
