The seller does not describe it as being original.

The original battery that comes with my k-7 looks exactly like that on the label; may be it is a genuine... not sure. The price is not bad though.

Can a knockoff actually say "Pentax"? Weird.
But yes, the general feel of that offer is a bit sketchy, so probably its not genuine. I wouldnt trust it.

That is a deceptive trade practice. Advertising a copy using the real thing as bait. I tried to complain to ebay and couldn't get through to the right person.

Photo looks like a real Pentax battery and a real Pentax box. The random disclaimer may or may not be trying to bait and switch you. Could just be lazy page making.

(edit)

Oh. Wait a minute. That battery would not fit in that box. Can't believe I missed that, but look.

That'd be hinky enough for me to not buy there.

The rest for background.

It's far easier these days to counterfeit packaging and labels on products, but I'm not seeing anyone going to that trouble to mark up a battery that size by five bucks. Memory cards make it more worthwhile by quantity. Counterfeiters looking to make money wouldn't sell you a pentax label for twenty bucks when a generic gets nearly the same price anyway.

You'd probably get either a generic or a real thing, neither of which is a ripoff at twenty bucks, really.

I think that's just poor Photoshop skills ...

The battery in the picture is OEM, but the battery they are actually selling is not. The item title says "Battery For Pentax D-LI90...". The word for indicates they are selling a battery made by some company other than Pentax. This practise of using a photo that is not of the actual item for sale is widespread.

The price is a dead giveaway anyhow. Even B&H sells the OEM battery for twice that price. Bricks-and-mortar stores sell it for 4 to 5 times that price.

Horusbennu batteries in Korea (it's a Korean company) are cheap. Just got 2000mAh batteries for my K-30, about $12 each.
I actually got shipped an Li90 by mistake (box said 109, but inside was a 90), those go for around $19 here in Korea. Their Li90 batteries are 1550 capacity though, not 1850.

It's probably not a genuine pentax, but it's probably a legitimate battery.

Can a knockoff say "Pentax"? Yes. This is common practice among pirate good manufacturers. I'm surprised Pentax offers a big enough market to make it worthwhile, but you never know. But can isn't may it's completely illegal.

You can buy fake iPhone chargers with the Apple label printed onto a sticker. You can get 'em through Amazon, even, and Amazon seems to turn a blind eye.

Being a smaller market, counterfeiting is less likely, Matt, but it's also become a lot *easier* for counterfeiters to fake labels and such. It's more likely, though, that if someone bought from that ad that they'd get a battery without any form of Pentax name on it.
