Sigma EF 500 DG Super Upgrade?

Greetings.

I'm currently using a Sigma EF 500 DG Super with my *ist Ds and am currently pondering upgrading my camera to one of the newer models (either the k-10 or a K-100D). I seem to remember some discussion about being able to send the flash unit to sigma to get it updated to work with the new cameras, but cannot seem to find any information on how to do that. If any one here can assist I'd be thankful.
