Emergency Remote Options

I have the Pentax IR remote for my K20 but it's not with me today. I'm looking to get some group shots - and was hoping to find a way to remotely trigger.

I've tried looking online - is there a way to trigger my K20 with a certain TV remote? I seem to recall that some other cameras were able to be triggered by a TV remote as well.

Current Gen (S4/Note 2) Samsung phones can do it with an app. So can the HTC one, as well as select windows phones.

I lucked into using a Sony TV remote. For my K5 it was the 'select' (not channel) as in select a menu option on a tv screen that did the trick. But I couldn't tell you which remote. If it's not too late and you can get your hands on a Sony remote, you might be lucky.

So I realize this is too late, but I just had a thought, tested it, and it worked.
Any of you remember those cassette tape mics with the on/off switch? Yup, you're right. It works!
When you turn on your camera, it will autofocus, then, when you are ready, turn the mic to "ON" and take your shot.
If you need to auto focus again you either have to turn the camera off/on, or upplug/replug in the mic.
I know - this is about as redneck as you can get . . .

Real W. Heath Robinson approach, but as you say it kinda works.

What on earth made you think of that trick.
