Manfrotto Variable Friction Arm questions...

I disassembled the arm at the airport because my bag got overweight, I had to take it apart to put one piece in my check-in luggage, the other in my hand carry bag. I put it together and now the middle part doesn't tighten as it used to, though both spigots on the ends still tighten up nicely. I'm thinking maybe I put the washers back the wrong way... anyone know how to put the arm back together again the right way? I googled and googled (even yahooed and vista-ed...) but I can;t find anything anywhere on how to put the arm back together again. Thanks!
