Temporarily replace charger?

Hello,
I'm on a short trip, but have sadly forgotten the charger for my K-5. Is there anything I can do? I'll try to find a cheap replacement charger, but this being Pentax I don't think I have any chance. Is there any way I can get the battery charged, if I can get hold of another camera charger for a 7.2V Li-Ion battery? Just use a few wires to connect perhaps?

Where are you then? Plenty of 3rd party chargers around for what is a generic battery, or generic chargers like the hahnel UniPal.

Singapore. And ordering online is not an option. It needs to be available in a shop. But I think I should be able to get access to a video camera charger that is meant for a 7.2V battery. If the only difference is the form and contacts of the Pentax battery then I should be able to use a few wires to connect the contacts...

There are a few members here on PF who are part of a huge enthusiastic Pentax club based in Singapore. I can't think of their names, but a search around the forums might get you started. I'm sure they could hook you up with a vendor or maybe even a loaner charger.

It should work fine as long as the charger doesn't need a temperature input to work, many will work fine with no temperature input. The sensor might be different between batteries and the Pentax sensor might not give the expected value and the charger wouldn't work.

Other than that is is just + to + and - to -.

This was an old post (2011) from DPR. Original topic here: Spare battery for K5 in Singapore: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
Not sure how far it is from you but it's worth a shot.

Go to this place.
Lots of shops selling camera gear. One of them should have a 3rd party charger.
Funan DigitaLife Mall
Bought my K-r there and also some other electronic stuff so you should be able to find something. When I think about it...
I think on the top floor you will find the biggest store selling everything from cameras, PC's, X-box, accessories and so on.
Good luck!

Thanks guys! I wanted to try using a video camera charger first, and... lo and behold, it works. That charger only has 2 contacts, so it won't complain. The battery also shouldn't overheat cause there is enough air flowing past (it doesn't get even warm) and the charging light is on. I might drop by Funan though, sounds like there is a lot to explore there.

Yep, and you will get your duty-free back right in the mall. You only need to drop the duty-free slip at the airport on your way home.

That's risky! Walking into these type of places I usually find something that I "suddenly need".
