K100D Super & SDHC cards

I've just purchased an integral 4GB SDHC card for my new K100D Super; after formatting in-camera only 999 free images are available, which is way too many.

A firmware update is available, but this doesn't signify if it's applicable for the Super model (different firmware to the K100D?).

My firmware version is 1.00

Any help greatly appreciated.

Are you shooting in JPEG or RAW mode? I too just got my K100D Super and with my 4GB SDHC card I have +1100 frames available when shooting in *** JPEG mode. Keep in mind this is what is reported when I have ~300 "test" images on the card still. From what I gather the latest and greatest FW for the K100D Super is 1.00. If I set my capture to RAW I have space available for ~300 images.

I've only tried *** JPEG so far. Likewise after shooting the display still reads 999 frames still available. Unless there is a known work around/fix, it looks like we'll have to wait for a FW upgrade from Pentax.

I think I understand what you are saying now. The top screen actually only has 3 characters for the number of available frames. This should be shown in the manual on p.22. So if you have more than 999 frames available you will show on the top screen 999. You will have to go into the Menu screen and highlight the "Quality Level" on the "Record" tab to see the estimated number of available frames. Firmware will not be able to "fix" this since the LCD only has 3 characters available for the number of frames. Set your quality level to RAW and you will see the LCD display reflect the correct number of estimated frames left.
