I know somebody who did this with a pair of Ricoh 35mm range finders in the early 1990's

Yeah, an' I did it with two Spotmatics in '72 but it's a lot more fun with instant digital gratification today.

Clean looking set-up.
I did something similar for a lunar eclipse couple years ago, it was tri-axial and not as neat as yours.
