Is this the correct adapter for my K-500? I want to use M-42 lenses.

Nope, that's not the right one. What you're looking for is an M42 adapter:

Genuine Pentax adapter: Pentax Mount Adapter K 30120 B&H Photo Video
Pretty good third-party adapter: General Brand Pentax-K Body to Universal Lens Adapter ABPKS B&H

Avoid adapters with big flanges around the front, as these would prevent you from focusing to infinity.

The adaptor you have shown is a T-Mount to K adaptor.
