Telescope adaptor

Just picked up a reflector telescope and would like to put the K-5 onto it.

What sort of adaptor do I need ?
The scope uses 1.25" eyepieces.

Also, do these adaptors have any glass in them ?
If not I could make my own using the mount from an old lens.

Morning,

They are called T adapters. There are a lot of them around. Here are some links....

Maybe it is self-evident, but: The T-1.25" Adapter is universal, while the T2-ring must be "for Pentax-K" specific.

Do you plan to use your scope for astrophotography? If so, what mount did it come with?

Ok thanks for that.
So let me get this straight. My telescope is a 5" 1000mm FL. I can fit different eyepieces like 20mm or 40mm to the telescope and change the magnification, but if I fit my camera to it I will have a set 1000mm lens ?

Is there a way to change the magnification when using my camera ?

Yes, and it's just a 1.25" tube on a focuser rack.

Using the eyepiece projection setup allows you to change the magnification by changing the focal length of the eyepiece.

The following article will answer all your questions including how to calculate power, focal length etc.

Ah I'm starting to get the idea now.

There is an alternative to eyepiece projection, if you can 'live' with more modest magnifications. You can use ordinary teleconverters between T2-ring and camera, a so-called Barlow lens (a tele-negative lens much like a teleconverter) between scope and T2-ring, and even combinations of both:

Here you see the combination from camera and out: 2X Teleconverter + T2-ring with (hidden) 1.25" nosepiece +2.5X apochromatic Barlow. On my 4"/1000mm Newtonian that gives me an effetive focal length of some 5,800 mm. You may read a bit more and see some examples here:

Camera Settings for Astrophotography

Be prepared: Even such a relatively modest magnification requires a sturdy mount and a smooth focusing draw tube on your telescope - - - and some patience to get your target framed on the sensor!!!
