It'll cost you less than $10.00, and a little extra work

Thanks for the info Stu, I have a ringlight but that one seems a hell of a lot more convenient (no need to use the hot shoe. Still can't bring myself to go to Wallyworld though (it's a principle thing). I'm assuming that this product is available elsewhere. If anyone sees it can they please update this thread.
Thanks, Gary

Wow awesome info Stu! Haha this should encourage me to make more use of my macro lens. Say, how big's the diameter on the light?

(Oh right I just read it again and it says you gotta cut the hole bigger lol)

Some of the lenses in LED lights like that have prism-type chromatic abberations towards the edges of the beams, which could affect colour reproduction. I'd be a little worried about that, but I'm sure this would have it's use, and the price is right.

There are other DIY methods using that incandescent 'snake' lighting as well...can't find the link.

some of you know i made a couple of these a couple years ago. i made a 16 & 24 LED version.. it works fine but one thing i disliked was there was no shadows.. pix with it look flat.. i read that i should cover up one side of the lights for shadows to appear..

I'm interested in this tho..
vizjerei do have a link to the 48 light??

Way cool!
Tomorrow morning, I'm leaving to go spend a week with my parents and if I can find one of these tent lights at a Wal-Mart in middle Tennessee, this may be a great project for me and my dad to work on.

One thing I was thinking is if you have more than one macro and they both have different lens (or filter) diameters, this is cheap enough that you could have 1 for each lens. I can have one for the DA35 macro and another for the Tamron 90 that I want to get.

Oh, BTW, you don't have to go to Wallyworld to get one of these babies. All you need to do is to let your fingers do the walking and let them take you to Fleabay, where they have lots of them.

I'm very tempted to stick a transistor, an ATTiny, and an extra switch or two in one of those to allow for side-to-side contrast control.

Here's a thought; some one who may be handy could incorporate one of these little lights onto the sides of the ring tent light. That would render a more 3D look than simply with a lens mounted ring light.

I am thinking more like this. (This one is over $350! )

I just noticed that I have posted on a thread entitled "I'm going to Wally world..." Let me tell ya folks - it ain't gonna happen! If I buy these lights it won't be there.)
