Will O-GPS1 and Astrotrace work with Newtonian Reflector telescope?

On a Newtonian Reflector telescope the camera will be mounted sideways to the field of view rather than facing the field of view like with a camera lens. Will Astrotrace account for this to counteract the star tracking?

I've got an 8" scope I would love to use with Astrotrace but I'm concerned it won't work.

Thanks
Jeff

I don't think it will work. That 8" scope has a focal length near 800mm and is too much magnification for the O-GPS1, regardless of the sideways view.

Thank you. What is the focal length limit?

It won't work because on a Newtonian the camera is pointing perpendicular to the scope's line of sight, and the O-GPS1 directs the camera sensor movements according to where the camera is pointing!

800mm focal length is definitely at the far end (and normally beyond) the O-GPS1's capability and accuracy. It somewhat depends on the camera model though, and I have used the O-GPS1 on a K-5 and a focal length of 700mm:

A few more examples here:

So for bright objects and short exposure times..............

Otherwise, I would put the sensible, upper limit witha K-5 or K-3 to some 300mm.
