AstroTracer Quirks: Does anybody know when it works/does not work?

I've actually seen exactly zero impact of fine calibration or how it's performed.

Yes, the device must be aligned on Polaris. The Skytracker has a built in illuminated polar scope. There is a polar alignment app available for most smartphones that you can use to be more precise and reduce cone error.
