My experience is lens manufacturers actually don't take a lot of care fitting the hoods--anyway not w/ older lenses--and thus doubtful w/ newer lenses as coating likely get even better.
And w/ newer lenses (e.g., FA) the hood is designed for film--so using a dslr means the hood is not optimum.
Also for older lenses I would guess (intuitive from using the stuff--not a recent test) that the hood is set up to work w/ a PL and a regular filter--but you may never us filters--or may choose not to when flare is a problem--and that is when a good hood is often most helpful.
