Manfrotto 460MG feedback?

I was wondering if any of you might share your experiences with the 460MG--while the bigger 410 geared head seems to get almost unanimous praise, the 460 seems one of these "swear by 'em, swear at 'em" propositions. No doubt the 410 would be a great head for my applications--landscape and macro--but since I put in some pretty long days here in the Southern Appalachia's, I'm very conscious that the smaller head would shave almost two pounds from my load-out.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. (FWIW, I'll be especially curious how the 460 might have worked in portrait orientation (no L-bracket, yet) since it seems I frame most of shots that way.)

It is the most horrific product I've ever used. I can't really remember what was "wrong" with it, but it probably involved ergonomics and that some of the tilt axises were asymetric.
I sold it and bought a Velbon magnesium ball head. It is lightweight and had no problem carrying a 645 and 150-300 lens.

Excellent, thanks for the unvarnished honesty! As I said, I've turned up reviews that corroborate your opinion.

Okay, now I'm confused again...

Appreciate the feedback, could I talk you into elaborating what camera/lens combo's work well with it, and what sticks you're using?

I use the 410 geared head on an old 055 model Manfrotto tripod as the base for my astro tracking mount. The geared head makes orienting to celestial north a walk in the park. I use a smaller Manfrotto ball head between the camera and the tracker but have been wondering how stacking two 410s would work out... the 410 is that good.

Excellent, thanks for elaborating--from what I've seen, the 410 can handle whatever people want to throw at it. (Of course, whether I can still get it to the top of the hill is another matter!)

The 410 is a bit heavier than most other heads but the degree of precision in tripod adjustments is well worth the extra weight. Composing shots in macro can be quite challenging with most heads but the 410 makes that a breeze.

Thanks for the feedback--every picture I've seen of the 410 in action seems also to feature a set of focus rails, so you're in good company.
