I know that there has to be a solution out there somewhere... who has it?

Pages 34 of the K10D manual describes how to turn on and turn off autofocus in the Custom Settings menu when using the remote shutter release. There must be a similar function for the K20.

I am looking for a wirelss remote, IR pref that has the same function as the reguar shutter button where you hold it down half way it will focus. The Pentax F remote doesnt have this feature, is there a remote out there that does?

Custom menu setting in the camera, like monochrome said. I have the same remote and it works this way with my GX-1S and my K200D(or not, depending on camera setting).

There is no half-press function built-in to the wireless. You would need to have to separate signals to send to the camera, and at least on the wireless features, you only have one - to activate the shutter.

Indeed, one of the menu options allows you to auto-focus right before it takes the shot. I've used it many times with my non-Pentax remote and it works - press the button, autofocus, click.

I use the Pentax D remote I think it is I have, one with the rectangle button.

I set the remote timer to 2sec and the lens focuses first and then takes the shot. I didn't have any success with just leaving it on wireless with no delay.

You want to autofocus with the wireless remote, but not trip the shutter? What for? I'm just wondering.

Self portraits. I can't focus on myself if I am behing the camera. I had to use a wired remote, but that limits how far I canbe from the camera. Wireless is needed.

Homebrew Wired Remote for Canon EOS 350D Camera

You can make the remote as long as you need, for the cost of a couple switches and wire.

Pentax uses the same wiring as Canon for the wired remotes.

Hi Buddha Jones

I DO ! I hereby claim my 'complimentary' case of Budweiser and will drop by to collect it ASAP.....LOL ! Try the following links below, complete with photos to show how it operates. IMHO it's utterly brilliant, considerably cheaper and by comparison with Pentax's offering, it leaves the Remote F in the dust ! It works up to 100 metres/320 feet away....and I'm not kidding, either ! No connection, apart from being a satisfied customer.

Can't help you with the wireless Buddha, but being the cheap-arse that I am, I made myself a wired one... check out that older thread.

Wireless Remote for Pentax K100D K10D CS-205 GX-10 R7D - eBay (item 130225167441 end time May-30-08 20:15:32 PDT)

Same basic design, works great. Might be a little easier on the wallet (or might not, lol).

Why not use a hyperfocal setting on the lens?

I paid 4.99 for my remote - it's a standard miniature TV remote (no numbers) and as I posted in my original post months ago, it works flawlessly, looks a heck of a lot better than those flat remotes being sold on ebay, and it's extremely ergonomic.

All you need is a recent all-in-one remote and test codes until you find the right one.
