Take a Load Off

Here is a neat idea that may work for you if your shoulder gets a bit tired when you are lugging that Bigma (or similar sized) lens around on a field outing.

I picked up this belt hook at Lowes for a couple of bucks. The hook rotates with a click-lock mechanism.

With my camera strap extended to a "sling" length, I can slide it over one shoulder and then hook the hand grip/tripod mount of the lens into the hook. Now a lot of the weight is transferred to my belt, leaving my 72 yr old shoulders feeling a lot better at the end of the day.

It's not designed for a "quick draw," but while just walking along it works well. Maybe a pocket knife holster would allow for quicker draw. If I see one I like I may try it.

Do you take the camera body off first? I've set my Sigma 100-300 f4 with a arca plate and the Peak Design Clip. I haven't tested it on its own enough, but use it all the time for the camera body. It works better without the grip of course, but I love using the grip and so have to put up with the awkwardness.

I like your idea though. I'm always looking for budget friendly options.

The camera body stays attached. All it does is hook the foot of my Bigma so that the weight is on my belt, not my waist. I just put the hook on my belt at the place the camera naturally hangs when it is on a sling. I hope that is clear. It is difficult to take a selfie, but I will try to do so and add it to the post.
