The red dot sight I use is made for guns.
I use an older version of this to mount to the hot shoe.

So I've had my EE-1 for a while. The biggest issue is that the hot shoe isn't the most mechanically stable interface, so I've had to sight it in with the assumption that the sight is always pushed as far right as possible in the shoe. This ensures I get consistent windage while minimizing the need to adjust it. Elevation doesn't need to be changed all that often, but parallax still needs to be accounted for.

In any case, it's a useful tool. The red dot sight definitely makes it easier to locate birds from afar and hence more quickly and accurately aim the camera.
