OGPS and Flash?

I know the manual says a flash and the OGPS can't be used at the same time. Of course only one thing can occupy the hotshoe. Can a flash be used with the sync cable and have the OGPS active at the same time? There may be times in the field where a flash would be useful but the GPS data is vital. I'm having a tough time finding that information.

I don't believe you can use an external flash with the GPS unit mounted. I guess this is where the K-3 II actually stands apart!

Some one tried using the OGPS-1 with a flash on a sync cable and could not get it to work. Perhaps it was just the cable. If I can find the post I'll update with a link.

Since the adapter for the snync cord mounts to the hot shoe I don't see how you could. There is nowhere else to attach a sync cord. Yes the K3ii had the advantage here with built in GPS.

Some sync cords have a pass-through shoe on the camera end. That way you can have a flash on the camera and one on the sync cord or piggy back two sync cords.

The OGPS unit in the hot shoe gets in the way of the popup flash but it could be the digital signals from the GPS unit override or disable flash or at least P-TTL.

The hardware exists to mount the OGPS, and have an external flash connected: "Pentax Hot Shoe Adapter F", for e.g. at Pentax Hot Shoe Adapter F 31022 B&H Photo Video.

I don't have this adapter so haven't tried it to see if the camera would recognize both accessories.

I use this to trigger a wireless remote attached on the hotshoe and a strobe via sync cable so it may be worth a try.

Interesting. I presume for my uses, moving the the K3II would negate the requirement for the adapter and cable, unless multiple flashes are required. The adapter and cable together aren't inexpensive at B&H...

Thanks for the information, though. It's something which might be quite useful, even just for simple flashes.
