I just had to declare it -- I love my SANDISK Ultra II SD Plus cards.
I have never been a flash-memory snob. I don't shoot sports, and don't look for the last percentile of performance. I have happily used no-name cards, Kingston, PNY, etc.
But I got a SANDISK Ultra II Plus as a gift last year, and then another one as a gift a few months later. These cards seemed clever, but I wasn't expecting to like them THIS MUCH.
What's special about these cards? They flip over in the middle, and reveal a second set of electrical contacts, that allows the SD card to be inserted into ANY plain-vanilla USB port.
These cards have let me COMPLETELY forget about using an external card reader. (None of my computers, including those at work, have internal card reader slots.)
The Ultra II Plus is USB 2.0, so they download fast. They also seem to be a good card in general, so my *ist DL does write RAW files a little faster than to the no-name cards.
I would have gone on happily using these cards and not said anything. But last week I had a little job to shoot at work. For whatever reason, I put a Kingston 2GB card into my camera. Of course, I forgot to pack my external card reader. So I had no way to get to the pictures until I got home! Today, I had another shoot, and I made sure to put the Ultra II back in my camera. I could immediately turn the shoot around on my work computer, with no worries.
I'm always amazed, it's the little things that make life easier. These Ultra II Plus cards are one of those little things.
** OK, I know I sound like a raving maniac who must be paid by SANDISK. I assure you not, I'm just a regular guy who has an abnormal regard for these little SD cards....
Cheers,
Dave
