My real deal Canon-made ET-74 arrived today. Fits just as you said it would on the DA* 50-135mm lens albeit it doesn't click into place. It does seem like it isn't going to fall off the camera though unless it gets twisted and WOW it is big. haha

However it DOES vignette at f/2.8 @ 50mm -- I tested the lens with and without the hood. Please see the screenshots.
Is the real Canon one a Tulip hood?

Nope.. giant tube. Looks identical to the one in the OP but with Canon printing and has felt lining. fancy haha

But the vignetting I suspect is why the 50-135 OEM hood is a tulip as that would probably counter the vignetting at 50mm

That said it isn't a complete show stopper for me.. I'm still glad to have a cheap hood that fits and functions 95%, but I'll still be looking for an OEM hood.

Can you measure the length of the hood? I can measure my Pentax hood also and we can compare.

OK - I'll check mine tomorrow. I'm upstairs about to go to sleep and the hood is downstairs.

LOL - I am. But tonight was chaotic. Sorry. I'll try to grab it and measure it but things are crazy tonight. Youngest child spilled pounds of sugar in the kitchen while we were out... you know how much fun that is. Mopping time.

---------- Post added 09-04-15 at 10:19 PM ----------

Wow - that's significantly bigger.

Here are the measurements. From the base to the LOWEST VALLEY on the tulip: 50-51mm
From the base to the LOWEST PEAK on the tulip: 73mm
From the base to the HIGHEST PEAK on the tulip: 90mm
Inside Width at the LOWEST VALLEY: 88mm
Inside Width at the HIGHEST PEAK: 89mm

Being wider I guess that helps but wow - that's a much longer hood.
I think I would create a construction paper replica of that diameter and mount it on a posterboard ring to allow me to see the max length without vignetting and then I'd wrap a paper template around that hood and cut the excess off.

Here is a photo with the hood on.. yeah its huge. lol. Remember this hood is designed for a Full Frame 70-200mm F/4 lens.

---------- Post added 09-04-15 at 09:53 PM ----------

Btw I'm not going to cut this hood... I think I can resell for more than I paid.. which I'll probably eventually do. I see on ebay there are tulip varieties of this hood that look a bit smaller. I might try one of those maybe. Still hunting the OEM Pentax hood though.

Just bought one of these moments ago.. will let you know how it goes. If it still vignettes, I won't mind shaving it down haha

FWIW, at 50mm on the 50-135, at 2.8, putting a fingertip more than 1mm past the edge of the hood will make the fingertip show in the viewfinder... so it's not a great surprise that the lens vignettes with that hood. I'm actually surprised it doesn't vignette on the body its intended for, given that the 70mm would be wider on that. But maybe it's a hood intended for just the 200mm end?

No I don't see that happening.. if Canon designed a hood for a zoom lens, then it is surely to be for the full focal length of this lens.

But I had a similar thought... the 50-135 at Canon FF equiv focal length is 75 - 202.5 on a lens sized wider than that (70-200).... maybe I'm thinking of that backwards though.. brain hurts. hahaha

I even see it at f/4 but it is repairable in post.. yet an unnecessary step I'd say if I can just get the right sized hood. The next one supposedly will be here next Saturday.. excited!

The op didn't get or recommend the 70-200 2.8 hood, which is the et-87 Canon ET-87 Lens Hood 3531B001 B&H Photo Video

You purchased the f/4 version.

Your hood will probably work great on the 60-250/ (Pentax uses the same hood for both). Hope the new one works better... And fits. The 70-200/2.8 might have a larger diameter. Not sure.

But I didn't mention the 70-200 f/2.8 lens or hood??

And yes, I was aware what I ordered -- f/4 hood both times.

I didn't mention the 70-200 2.8 because it wouldn't fit the bayonet because it is 10mm larger in diameter.
