Lowpro replacement Backpack to carry 600mm f5.6 A

Hi All.

My trusty Nature Trekker zipper gave up the ghost so I need a replacement. Lowpro said they can replace it with either the Whitsler BP 45 AW or ProRunner BP 450 AWII. The former bag(Whistler) looks larger and I'm sure it will handle the lens, but larger isn't always better. I'm not overly tall (5'7") but stocky (a polite way to say I'm overweight). The Nature Trekker handles the lens well with the lens off the body and is comfortable. I looked at the B&H site but really couldn't get a sense from the images if it can handle a lens that larger.

I appreciate your advice.

Doug

backpack replacement

Have you taken the old backpack to a (good/reputable) shoe repair place to see if they can replace the zipper? I only ask because there is one here in Lansing, Michigan, that does such work. If the backpack is in good shape otherwise it might be worth a try.

Actually fixed a zipper on a tent with one of these, although it is a bit fiddly. (But has an adjustment screw, just have to get it right.)

I appreciate the info, and I might just send it there. The Lowpro rep has made it clear they will cover the cost in the form of a replacement, not a repair, which seems odd to me too.

They probably simply don't want to maintain an inventory of parts for older bags.

Hi Folks.

For the record I was able to put the lens in both. It fits a bit better in the Prorunner though, the smaller of the two bags (on the outside).
