Lenspen, any good?

What do you think of lenspen products. They have separate products for even lens cleaning and filter cleaning.

I always use blower and not very comfortable using brush on my lenses.

Any opinions please.

I'm about to get yelled at, but I use a tissue or my T-shirt half the time.

You're not alone...
When I'm in a pinch I use the softest material available, though I often have a microfibre cloth in my camera bag...

I have one. I know that front elements are ridiculously strong and scratch resistant, but I still use the little brush to remove dust etc. first before I wipe it with a microfibre cloth.

The original LensPen is great - if you get the genuine article and not an oriental rip-off. The problem is that there is never enough of the carbon compound in it. Presumably the only difference between the two is that the lens one has the cleaning end slightly curved ?

Lenspens are useful for fingerprints and oily things. They don't make them as well as they used to, so they are pretty disposable. There are lots of copies now. I started buying these instead, get a whole bag of 'em:

I find that a Lenspen works great on already clean lenses that might need a gentle cleaning of an occasional finger print or light dirt accumulation. Real dirty lenses need a good cleaning first prior to a lens pen catching the rest. A Lenspen would be the last step in the cleaning process.

I managed to cure myself from the t-shirt habit by ruining a polarizer filter on the trail somewhere east of Mt. St. Helens. It was dustier than I thought and the dust up there is very high quality silica (volcanic ash).

For regular cleaning, I use the corner of a clean cotton cloth with moistened with Windex. I follow with a dry portion of the same cloth.

There is a reason to have UV filters on the lens, they get destroyed not the lens...

Yes, Windex. It has the same ingredients as the lens cleaning solution sold at the camera stores and is one of the options used by the repair guys.

The moral of that story was to not scrub the front optical surfaces with silica grit. I don't use UV filters anymore, but I am also very careful with dust. A cap is probably our best friend and for more than one reason. First, to protect...second, most plastic lens caps carry a bit of charge and tend to grab the dust before it gets near the glass.

"lenspen" is a great product... even the ebay stuff is very good... and cheap. I buy them in bulk every 2 years or so and last for a long time.
I always have one with me in the bag.
