tripod not too expensive is good?

i'm finding a good tripod for my pentax k10d.

i sa that there are 2 categories:
- 25-30 euro\dollars
-180-200 euro\dollars (manfrotto...)

the economic tripods are sometimes not good... but is there a GOOD tripod for max 100 euro\dollars?

if you're in the states you can get really good deals on Amvona stuff, their packages come under 200 bucks but you get legs + head!

Amvona 720 imagine, discover, connect.

well you can still buy their stuff just shipping might kill you

however if you can get a group buy going with your mates, you all can benefit (ie, buying 3 tripods will not make your shipping 3 times as large)

Even including shipping, customs and VAT, they might be a very good deal. I have bought some carbon fibre legs from www.lumieretech.com, which - after all those import duties – were still a bargain.

On the other hand you find some good and cheap tripods from Giottos or the new lines from Bilora (don't buy the rubbish they sell via discount or department stores). They sell the Chinese produces tripods you also get via Amvona and elsewhere. Giottos has some original designs, too.

A good way to buy good quality tripod legs is to look for a used, old Linhof or an old Cullmann Titan at ebay. These come fairly cheap , but are still very good value, if they are not damaged.

I've been using the Slik Pro 700-DX AMT for about a year now. It lists for $129 (US) on Amazon & here. Granted, I have virtually no experience with any other tripods, but I like this one. I did replace the pan/tilt head with a Manfrotto 486RC-2 ball head.

That's my input, for what it's worth (maybe nothing, granted).

I was going to mention the SLIK as well, this 700-DX is heavy and solid and cheap for what you get. SLIK also makes lesser/lighter ones in the series which may be sufficient and not as massive.

Here's a pic of it with a Fuji F10 perched on it, for a sort of surreal flavor:

Hi platinum

I appreciate that this is slightly above your chosen price range, but trust me on this one and click on the following link:

Scroll down to the bottom of the the post, in order to view a decent photo of it. I am so chuffed with this recent purchase that I can't even begin to tell you,

This package deal from B&H is a little more than what you've budgeted, but it's a really good deal for what you get:
Bogen / Manfrotto | 190XDB Tripod Legs (Black) | 190XDB-F,484RC2

You might want to keep an eye on the Marketplace here, as people ocassionally list tripods and heads for sale, either because they want to upgrade or because they've accumulated too many. Ebay is also another good place to pick up used tripods and heads; oftentimes, you can get both the head and legs in the same auction.

If you want to go the used route, a couple of good sets of legs to look out for are the Bogen/Manfrotto models 3001 and 3021.

As for ballheads, I have the Bogen/Manfrotto 486RC2, which I like really well--brand new, it runs about $70USD. Another one that I haven't used, but is also well-regarded is the 484RC2 and it runs around $60USD new.

I got lucky with my B/M 3001 tripod legs and managed to find a good used set locally on Craigslist for $30.

Heather

I have an induro tripod.
I tried it because it was a bit cheaper than Manfrotto at equivalent size and max weight.
I could not be happier with it. It is very well built and sturdy.
So if you see a model of theirs that is within your price range and looks like it could suit your needs, you can buy it. It is good stuff.

Hey Platinum,
I just bought a Slik Sprint GM Pro for about $115 Australian. Comes with a ball head rated to
2kg and can lay flat to 16cm.
Its not the strongest tripod I've seen but still pretty good, is great value for money especially if you intend on carrying it some distance because it only weighs 860grams.

I have a Benro C-158n6 with a KS-0 head, it's excellent but out of the OP's price range.

One of the aluminum (mine is carbon fiber) variants would be a lot cheaper, but still prolly around $200-230 USD for legs + head.

Edit: The Benros and the Induros are identical as far as I can tell. Same for Amvona. All from the same factory and with identical specs for similar models.

Edit 2: The Slik Sprint Pro someone else mentioned is also pretty good. Not nearly as sturdy as the midrange "1-series" Benro/Induro/Amvonas, but decent. I have a Sprint Mini and it's quite nice when you need a supersmall tripod, but doesn't get much height.

I'll second the 190xb/486rc2 combo...I just got that on the suggestion of the poster and it was a pretty good deal at $140 after rebate.
