Silicone case

Hello everybody,

does anybody know if there is a manufacturer out there which does produce silicone camera skins for Pentax like easyCover? I have searched all over the web but without success.

Thanks.

I don't know of anything like this for Pentax cameras, however, a word of warning... In the past I've used silicone skins and protective cases for a lot of equipment (not necessarily photography-related). While they might protect an item from some small impacts and scrapes, the downside is that dirt, dust, moisture, grit and anything else small enough tends to collect between the protective case and the item. A case in point is my Nexus 7 tablet, which spends all of its time in a hardshell book-style cover. Once in a while I take it out of this cover, and you wouldn't believe how much "stuff" has collected between the tablet and the inside of the cover. That said, it hasn't caused me any problems. One that did, though, was a soft case I used with a radio scanner some years ago. The scanner was never taken out of the tight-fitting silicone case during normal use, except to change batteries. On one occasion I removed the case and found lots of small scratches on the plastic body of the radio, and tiny bits of grit and other detritus inside the silicone case. The outer shell was scratched up worse than it would have been through normal use. The problem is, in addition to stuff getting between the equipment and the protective case, it moves around between the two while you're using it.

Many Pentax DSLRs are already weather-resistant, and for those cameras, the most I would recommend is some sort of LCD display protector... plus of course a proper camera case to store the camera and lenses while not in use

There was a previous thread on this; but I don't seem to be able to find it right now. I don't think there are any for Pentax, unfortunately.

I have used a silicone case on a Canon compact camera and strongly recommend that you don't use one. The silicone tends to rub on the body and leave marks or remove the protective coating on the body.
