Focusing screen compatibility

Is the K-50 screen compatible with the K-3? Or if I buy a new body am I going to have to line up another screen, as well?

They are different. K-7, K5, K5ii, K3, K3ii all use the same screen however.

EDIT - I misrecalled. The K100d / K100d Super is different not the K-50. I have owned all of these and got mixed up.

It is not my intent to directly contradict you, but they are the same. This archived page from the KatzEye Web site gives a pretty clear indication of Pentax APS-C screen types through February 2015.

...and also this current page from the Ricoh Imaging (Japan) Web site...

I was able to take the focussing screen I purchased for my k30 and install it in my k3 without issue. Since the k50 is essentially the same camera I don't see why you would have problems with your k3

You guys are correct. I got my cameras mixed up. I also have a K100D and a K100D Super and that is the one that is different from my K-3.
Thanks for correcting this mistake. I have edited my original post to reflect this.

Just to include a couple newer bodies, the following bodies all use the same screen: K-7, K-5, K-5II, K-5IIs, K-3, K-3II, K-30, K-50, K-500, K-S1, K-S2, and K-70. (2017: Add the KP.)

An easy way to verify is to look at the accessories available for each camera on the official Ricoh Imaging / Pentax website. They all list the MF-60, MI-60, ME-60, and ML-60 screens (they are all matte screens, just with different bracket lines).

I had a strong suspicion that they might be, but figured I'd check. Thanks for the info!

Soooo... if I've got this right - if i use my Katzeye's K-500 focusing screen, will it work without any problems on K-S1? Even tho viewfinder specs for K-500 and K-S1 are a bit different (0.92 vs 0.95 magnification)...

Yes the K-500 screen will work in a K-500, what does that have to do with a K-S1?

They all use the same screen. Viewfinder magnification should not make a difference, as that takes place above the screen.
