SDHC Memory

I havea Kingston 4gb SDHC memory card, which I have only begun to use.
Pictures record well and come up very clear on camera (K10d) viewing screen.
However, it will not register in any way on my computer. I have card readerwhich gives no problem with any other of my cards, none of which are SDHC.

F drive shows disc inserted but shows nothing else.
Is Kingston a reputable card to use or shuld I stick to Sandisk?

Have I got a faulty card? I was at first thinking that sd HC was different to SD.
Any thoughts that may help a computer amateur would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I just went from a 2GB SD to an 8GB SDHC card (both Apacer). I've bought two Ritmo cheapie USB card readers (from MSY) about 8 months apart for two different computers. Only the later one reads the SDHC - both read the SD card fine. Try another reader.

You must buy a SDHC compatible card reader m8. That is probably why you can't view them on your PC

its likely the reader as others have said.

two options-buy a new reader, or connect the camera via its usb cable to the pc.

i'd opt for the reader. i grabbed a cheapie from newegg for under 15 bucks shipped, i think. works fine

Thanks a lot all, I am convinced you hit it just right. A new reader seems to be the next thing.
Appreciate the information.
Usb cable from camera in the meantime it seems.

Yeah the new reader will do the trick. I bought an Extreme Memory about a year ago, it works perfectly fine. It does with the old memory cards too, by the way.

So it is like Pentax: upwards compatible (? or was that called downwards?).

It was about 7.50US$ including postage from HK. So with the inflatory rate, should be about 12,50 by now

If you google transcend, you can find 16gb SDHC class 6 with a reader for under $60. I have two, one for my K20D and one for a video cam, and both work great.

Here is an inexpensive SDHC reader from Amazon. I have this one and it works great.

have not used the 16gb model, but I can definetly add another thumbs up for transcend. I am a fan of not all eggs in one basket, so I have 1 8gb card, and 2 more on the way, less than 50 bucks for 2. never an issue with those cards whatsoever

I have been using one 8gb and working fine, will order another 1 or 2 as backup.

I would recommend the reader. after having the K10 for almost 9/10 months loading pictures to the PC from the camera drains the battery if you are doing 300+ raws at one time.

Since you don't don't mention anything about your computer, I'm going to venture some suggestions which might not help / might not apply.

Firstly, if you are running XP, try installing SP3. If you don't want to install SP3, then you can try this hotfix:
Hotfix for Windows XP that adds support for SDHC cards that have a capacity of more than 4 GB

If you are running vista, try installing SP1. If you don't want to install it, then you can try this hotfix:
Availability of the Windows Vista Secure Digital (SD) rollup package

If you continue to have problems, feel free to PM me, and I'll try to help more. Unfortunately, I can only help with Windows XP / Vista.

Thanks for all the info guys. The sites you gave me cpopham, are very informative and useful, I have followed up on them. Yes I use XP.
Have followed up on readers as well, so think I have covered all the bases.

Thanks again for all the input. Much appreciated.
