Promaster RL-48

I've just purshased the Promastermaster RL-48 ring flash. It's set up on a K3 with the Tamron 90mm. I was disapointed that I could not get an aperture higher than 4.As iI kept on trying I set the camera continuous shooting (high) ,only the the first pic is dark and the second is well light from what I've expected when purshased.
Any idea.

The flash sync speed on Pentax cameras is 1/180s, so you'd have to reduce the flash power or use an and filter once you reach that, if you want to use a wider aperture.

Is the flash designed for continuous shooting?

Thanks Adam, so if I understood you good the ring flash sync speed was faster than the sync speed on the camera.

That's likely, since other cameras/brands can go higher. The K-1 can do 1/200s, while most high-end Canon and Nikon DSLRs can do 1/250s.
