Am I weak?

I just got my Benro TMA48CL48A tripod and it's a beauty.Maybe I'm getting weak in my old age but for the life of me I can't unscrew the foam leg to make it into a monopod.

I wish I could help... I will say, though, that's a fine tripod you have there!

Nice tripod! Maybe there is a release catch to open before unscrewing?

hate to say it, but you might have to read the manual.

Or use a pipe wrench

The instructions say that it simply unscrews. I'll wait until my younger stronger neighbor comes home.--charliezap

It may have been over-tightened in the initial assembly.

I called up the Benro # and I was told that this tripod does not unscrew to make a monopod even though the instructions show otherwise. The cheaper Benros do unscrew--charliezap

That makes sense, I guess... but - silly question, perhaps - why does that leg have a foam grip at the top and the others don't?

I'm guessing that leg is the monopod he's referring to on the ones that do unscrew, but seems useless in this case.

I did further research and one of the reviews on this tripod say that it does not convert to a monopod.Good thing that I didn't get the pipe wrench.--charliezap.

Well, you've got quite a gear here, Charlie!
You'll have to dig into your retirement fund and get a monopod !!

It's better this way, one less screw/joint/watever that can get loose or break, it's sturdier this way ;-)
Enjoy!

Theoretically, you only need one. If its a metal tripod and its cold, you only need one grip to carry it. If you're carrying it on your shoulder, you only need one leg padded. Theoretically
Although in my view, I'd want all three legs to be padded! I don't see that it would be much more expensive, or much more bulky/heavy.

So, to answer your question - who knows?

Congratulations Charlie, that's a great looking tripod! Maybe you're unscrewing the wrong leg. Or it may be a southern hemisphere thread and you're turning the wrong direction!

My Induro also has one leg with foam, it's a cold weather handle.

I have the aluminum version of this same tripod. I agree - it is awesome.

I grabbed a piece of foam pipe insulation at Lowes and now I have foam on all three legs of my Benro. Works a treat.

That's right. That is what my Sirui tripod has also as a carry/cold weather handle.
