OK, found the missing hood. Both the HS-7 and HS-9 work fine on my 35 mm f/2 (K) lens--set to infinity and f/22, and this includes using a standard thickness filter.

I bought a JJC hood from Amazon a few years ago. It says "replaces PH-SA49" on it, "LH-SA49" on the box. It's 49mm, rectangular, clip on, plastic, about an inch deep and reversible. It fits well on a 49mm filter thread but doesn't reverse well on a lot of newer lenses. For example, it fits on several flavors of Takumar 55mm, from Auto to SMC. It fits on the A or M50/2. But the Pentax-M 50/1.7 is just a little too fat for reversing. I think the Pentax-F 28/2.8 is too fat; can't find that lens at the moment. The Amazon page lists some lenses that seem too fat for reversing but I don't have them to try. It's $9.99 so not a big investment.

I'd be surprised if the Nikon 50/2 hood doesn't vignette on a 35mm focal length lens
used on my film SLRs (full-frame), especially at smaller apertures, but I am hopeful.
I fully expect I will need to reduce the length (depth) of the hood somewhat.

My Nikon F2 viewfinder covers virtually 100% so I'll test it on my 35/2 Nikkor lens first.
If it works on that combo it should also work fine on a Pentax SLR with K35/2 lens.

I have seen that JJC 49mm hood for sale on eBay. Thanks for the information.
It looks very much like Pentax hoods from the K/M/A era. I may give it a try.

My remarks (observations) about the HS-7/9 hoods working on 35 mm FL lens (with filter) were for the cropped Pentax dslr sensor (i.e., half frame equivalent, not full frame). However, now I checked one of them (w/o filter) on a Pentax FF film camera and it does not appear to vignette--but the viewfinder is not 100%.

The Nikon HS-6 lens hood arrived a couple days ago.
It vignettes on my 35/2 Nikkor starting at about f/5.6;
I assume it would vignette on my K 35/2 lens as well.

FWIW an original Pentax front lens cap will not fit securely
on a reversed Nikon hood, though a Nikon cap fits perfectly.

I will have to keep looking for a solution for my K 35/2 lens.
OTOH now I have the correct lens hood for my 50/2 Nikkor.

(Yes) on my HS-7 and 9 hoods I find the Nikon front lens cap fits perfectly into the reversed hood (I made a mistake in saying it has one push tab on the cap's periphery--it has two, but it is the one w/ NIkon in silver color on the front). [I believe there were three Nikon lens caps of the pinch design--the one I describe, a latter cheaper one w/ Nikon in black, and the still later center pitch one.] I have tried other lens caps (two Pentax designs, etc.) and never found another lens cap that worked.

Also the fact that it vignettes on the Nikon lens is not that strong an evidence that it will do so on the Pentax K 35mm f/2. The HS-7 and 9 hoods, including a standard filter (I just checked it on my MZ-S), don't at infinity and f/22--but viewfinder is not 100%. But my gut feeling is the filter will be a bigger affect than the viewfinder--but again it is a different hood you are trying.

This one might work for my K35/2 (52mm) lens: Amazon: Fotodiox Reversible "Tulip" style lens hood, 52mm

I managed to find the rare original Pentax rectangular plastic clip-on hood for my K35/2.0 lens.

I just started using an old Ashai lens hood for a Takumar 35 mm wide angle lens, on my 50 mm Pentax F 2.8 Macro lens. It's not as deep, nor is it reversible for storage on the lens, as the plastic Macro lens hood provided with the lens is, but it looks a whole lot better, IMO.

The old Ashai is metal, attaches via screw in and is kind of a rectangle. It shades the macro lens very well and did I mention it looks....as my kids would say...old school.... Pro cool.

I store it in a side pocket of my bag (Domke F-2 original)...where it takes up very little space and is quickly and easily fished out...ready for for action...when needed.

Another vote for using an oldie but a goldie.
