a reason/theory behind the price jump
I paid $130 back in April, however Pentax prices across the board have been steadily going up particularly after the K1 was released. I can only speculate partly supply/demand mostly Greed.

used from B&H for 89$
Was it actually in stock? If not either way that's your best bet.

Yeah they had one used in stock. Condition was 9/10

It should arrive on Monday, hopefully it's in good condition!

Seems extra batteries would be the less expensive option..as well as leaving off the "bulk" of the grip...probably could carry 4 (or more) xtra regular bat's for less than 1/2 the price of a grip & save the weight/bulk @ the same time..........

P.S. ..that's what I do....(though it probably won't/doesn't matter to those who are "grip happy')..............

I don't know if you've ever purchased from B&H before but if they graded it a 9, I doubt you would be able to tell it's been used not to mention I believe a 90 day warranty comes with it.

I looked at that used battery grip for weeks on B&H since I saw the prices increasing on them. Decided against it since I'm not sure when/where/what the K-3 II successor will use or be released.

I think they raised the price partly to make themselves look more valuable. They'll claim Yen change but I don't think that is the whole story. Especially after their recent interview where they said they wanted to be "premium". Plus, they are including it with K-3 II sales and touting a 299 dollar list price, which makes the bundle look even better.

The rest of us know the item hasn't sold at 299 until now. It was half that price for most of this year.

Another interesting thing is B&H lists the K3 body for $700 US and the body plus the grip for $750. To me this is simply price gouging that will result in more people turning to a third party option. I know I would not pay $300 for the grip.

Though, there is a used one for $89. I'm about to just buy it and call it a day.
That's what I did. I got mine from Adorama for $89 however. Looked like brand new in box. $299 is ludicrous.
