Nikon SB-16 on K20D

Anyone know if a Nikon SB-16 flash will work on the Pentax K20-D? I know it won't work in TTL mode, but maybe manual, A! and A2 modes. Any info appreciated.

I think any hot-shoe will trigger any flash. The thing to be careful of is the voltage. If the trigger voltage is to high for the K20D, it can do damage to the camera and flash.

As far as control, I don't think you are going to do any better than manual. But I'm not 100% positive on that one.

Thanks guys. This gives me somewhere to start before I try to trigger the flash on camera. It says the SB-16 is only 4.14 volts, but I'm still not sure what the compatible voltage range is on the K20-D. Still looking....

Thanks Again for the info!

30v is said to be the max. The Wein Safe-Syncs only reduce voltages to 6v, so at 4, you're good.

Just tried it. Works great! Used the flash's "auto" mode. f/8 @ 1/60. I don't suppose with dslr's the shutter speed is very relevant as it was with a film slr, except at extreme values...

Thanks again for the help!

What's the max sync speed of the -16? I was getting incomplete exposures (black bar at the bottom) with the camera's X mode. So I lowered it down to 1/160 and all was fine. Anything below the max is fine...

I use my SB 24 in manual mode, and calculate my distance/focal length/etc.

With off-camera flash, I tend to put the camera on the tripod and hold the flash. Then I put it on its lowest power setting.

Ryan, I just put the K20 in manual mode, set the shutter speed to 1/60th and the aperture at the value the flash dial indicated for A1 auto mode, which was f/8 and it worked perfectly. I've not tried putting the flash itself in "M" mode, but will soon, and I'll report back.
