I need help with this vintage bag.

I can't find information of this travel case in my brochures. The owner tells me that it is probably from the late 70's/early 80's. Apparently has "KOWA" locks. Is it genuine, or rebadged? I'd be thankful if anyone have some info on this.

Have you got any photos of the inside of the bag. That would help determine what it carried.

Without seeing the inside my first thoughts are that it might be for a Pentax 35mm motor drive system.

Regards

Chris

Here's a pic. Yeah, I suppose it's for a 35mm. I'm trying to determine the year these were made, and for which camera serie (K, M, A).

It looks like the cutouts may have been hand-made by the owner to fit his particular system. Perhaps the case came with solid foam blocks and a scalpel.

Hmmm! The interior shot is no help. What ever the case was used for it was repurposed with the new foam. Hard to tell what it was originally used for.

Could also have been used for Pentax medical equipment, like endoscopes.

Or with a dental setup like the 100mm macro and a ring flash and a ME or MG.

The smudge looks like an iodine stain.

I had a couple of suitcase 'cases'...never had a supplied scalpel. My experience was that they left it up to the owner/user to do that . Beautiful case the OP has though.

Your case looks similar to the ones that appeared in the first "M" Series catalogs in 1976. Also your case is marked with "Asahi Pentax" (not just Pentax), so that would also fit in with the 1976-1979 period.

Thanks Phil, helpful as always. So "Asahi Pentax" was only used until 1979? Interesting...

Your welcome!

"Asahi" was gradually phased out during the "M" Series and was removed from the new "A" Series bodies/lenses launched in 1983.

All "M or K" Series bodies/lenses released from 1975 to early 1980 had it on the camera front/lens top during their entire production run, even past 1983.

"M or K" Series bodies/lenses released from late 1980 on-wards had "Asahi" dropped from the name. (The MV/MV1 were the last bodies with "Asahi")

Phil.
