Pentax battery vs. non pentax

I am going on safari to africa with my kd10. I was advised to take an extra battery. Is it better to go with Pentax's own brand at around $54 or the off brands at $24? I know that a battery is a battery, but I don't want to get something inferior.
Thanks

Either should be fine as long as it's branded i.e Duracell etc but you'll need more than 1 extra 2 perhaps.

B&H sells a affordable version and it seems to work fine. Just as a precaution, I only use the non-pentax as a back-up, and i dont tend to leave it in the camera.

Maybe I am a bit paranoid, because the non-brand seems just as good as the pentax original.

Have a great and safe trip and post up those animals especially the females when you get back

The non branded batteries would/may only have a few shots less than a branded Pentax battery.

Minolta NP400 = $10 @ BH... and it is not an "off brand".

MAKE SURE THAT YOU WILL BUY THE RIGHT ONE, WHICH IS $9.95

the non pentax battery will explode after 65.28 hours of use causing a rip in the space time continuum sucking you back to 1955.

I brought 2 NP400 equivalent 1800 mAH rated batteries for $20 shipped on eBay. I don't put any stock in the 1800 mAH rating but they seem to be fine (not willing to spend the time to comparison test them).

I'd have gone with the B&H ones though as for $9.95 with reasonable shipping from a USA-based provider (eBay was Hong Kong) for a branded item it seems hard to go wrong.

I bought some NP400 Replacement, and it's rated at 2800 mAh! I'm not so sure that it's so "strong", but anyway, it's working fine in my K10D. Original battery is 63$ here, and replacement is 42$.

Not a problem; I am photographically equipped just fine for 1955.
