Hoya NDx400 82 mm On Pentax 24-70

Is the Hoya NDx400 nd filter compatible with Pentax 24-70 lens? I know the Pentax 24-70 has 82 mm threads and that is right, but is it safe as far as not coming into contact with surface of the lens? I am curious, because if I get the lens, I want to be able to use the screw on type filters, preferably Hoya which has served me well for long exposures.

I've been using a circular polarizer with my 24-70 with no problems. I just inspected the lens and the only way a filter could touch the lens surface is if the filter was curved toward the lens and actually protruded beyond the filter's threads towards the lens. I don't think such a filter exists, and I'm sure you won't have a problem with any ND filter. I'm actually in the process of deciding what density is best for my pending ND filter purchase. I'm leaning towards around six stops. I'm also hoping for a sale, but I don't think that is likely. Good luck.

Thanks. I have had a 72 mm Hoya NDx400 9 stop filter that I used, and it worked nicely on my 16-85. I may be selling my K-5IIS/Pentax 16-85 setup, buying a K-1, and buying a Pentax 24-70 to use on it. Doing some long exposure shooting during the day would be one of the things I would use the K-1/24-70 combination for, and that is where I would want to use the Hoya NDx400 82 mm. Thanks again, and good luck in finding a good price on a 6 stop filter.
